Technology is improving communication more and more everyday. It does cause changes with everyone. It is helping in the healthcare and education field a lot. It is affecting the healthcare field with the electronic medical records (EMR). Since using the electronic medical records more clinics have easy access to all the medical records. This can make communication more efficient for everyone.

Since so many patients have to see other doctor’s now for treatment, electronic medical records makes it a lot easier. They don’t have to search and search for paperwork now they can get all of their medical records electronically. So this gives the doctor all of there medical history right away. This is more reliable and it is not interpreted for something else that is handwritten.

In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s Lawrence Weed described the concept of computerized records which is now known as electronic medical records. (Cook, 2009) By the end of the 1970’s Weed had developed a powerful paradigm of new ways of using problem oriented medical records to put physicians in touch with the medical research.(Cook, 2009) Since the 1970’s electronic health records have helped out hospitals and doctor’s offices everywhere. We are no longer relying on handwritten paper records to treat patients.

Electronic medical records have a lot of advantages over the old paper records. The electronic medical records are accessible from almost every doctor’s office and the information is almost available immediately. It stores the information for long period of times and is accessible very easily. It is automatically updated every time the patient goes to the doctor and is sent over right always. You no longer have to wait for the office to fax over the information it is available anytime. It saves you from all the trouble of waiting for files to be faxed over, sometimes it gets...
