Today technology in healthcare such as voice recognition and electronic medical records can be beneficial to healthcare organizations. At my organization we use electronic medical record system known as care tracker, as a caregiver I find it to be convenient, less paper work, and if used properly can be cost efficient.

Electronic medical records decrease the time to develop a summary of the patient and improve communication efficiency (Joos, D., Chen, Q, PhD, Jirjis, J, MD., Johnson, K.B, MD, and MS). Electronic medical records track data over a period of time, improve and monitor the quality of care (Electronic medical records and electronic health records).Meaningful use of electronic medical records enhances communication, coordination, measurement, and decision support in healthcare settings. Electronic medical records allow healthcare providers to identify and recommend patient-specific services, generate reminders to increase compliance with recommendations and communicate and coordinate with other specialist treating the same patient, which allows for better decision making based on more comprehensive information available. Providers who have implemented and use electronic medical records have reductions in the amount of time spent in locating paper files, transcribing information, and time spent on the phone with lab and pharmacies, as well as increased accuracy in documentation and coding (Electronic medical records-CIS). Electronic medical records assist real-time communication with patients during office visits, primarily through immediate access to patient information, allowing providers to talk with patients rather than search for information from paper records (O’Malley, A.
