A. Historical Setting and Situation of the Immersion Area

174 Jail: This is Our Apostolate Area. A lot of inmates have difficulty in their way of living. The place seems narrow and crowded. Once you have entered the place, you would notice the foul smell inside. The inmates complain to the food they take because of the insufficient amount they receive. Even though they lack food, they manage to be happy and respect visitors. But it seems that the help we gave are not enough to the other detainees there, they’re still asking for money. They keep on giving letters secretly which includes cellphone numbers of people they said they know but the management prohibits them.

B. Experiences before the immersion

Inexplicable feelings. Fear. Anxious. These emotions were circling in our minds. Being afraid of what will be the result of our apostolate in 174 Penitentiary in Sto. Domingo, Angeles City. The environment, the people, everyone in there, we are too uneasy to enter their world. We felt so conscious and scared. But, every little thing, even the smallest ones are just mere lies of the Mass Media. The lock up is not what we think it is. It is a world that is unexpectedly the peaceful one.
