Summary:

Father Donald Calloway was once a very troubled kid who has no direction in life or whatsoever. All he cared about was the fun and the girls he was getting. He started taking different kinds of drugs like heroine, cocaine, opium, marijuana, excessive alcohol, not to mention hallucinogenic drugs like mushrooms (psilocybin) and LSD before the age of eighteen (18). He also stole a lot of cars and other things, broke into buildings, assaulted people, went into jail and got bailed, and many other stuff that he got associated with a gang in Japan that got him arrested and deported from the country. He was really a rebellious that he called himself an “animal”. His family really suffered emotionally because of his behaviour. He went to a rehab station, but things didn’t get better and it only got worst. For years the drugs continued, so did the violence, the theft, and another arrest. So, what made him change?

One night Father Donald Calloway didn’t go out with his friends and just stayed home. He got so bored that he went to his parents’ bookshelf and looked for some books. There was a particular book that caught his attention and it was “The Queen of Peace Visits Medjugorje”. His curiosity got the best of him, so he read it and got so immersed into it. He didn’t understand most of it but he got the message that it was about Mary our Mother and Jesus. So the very next day, he went straight to a Catholic church and looked for a priest. He vented until everything he’s been keeping inside is out. He also prayed for the first time in his life, he got a calling from Mary and for the first time since he was a little boy he felt serenity. And that is where his life as a Catholic began.

Reflection:

Hearing and knowing Father Calloway’s background made my faith stronger. It made me believe more that nothing is impossible, people can always change no matter how bad they seem, and that God is always there guiding us in the right path and he’s just...
