Apple Inc., a good place to work?

Introduction

The organization which I have chosen for this report is the Apple Inc., the most valuable brand in the world (Millward Brown, 2012). The role that is introduced is based on the job of a Software Engineer. I will examine and analyze my chosen role with the help of the 5 criteria’s (work-life balance, pay and benefits, organizational culture, career progression, empowerment and pro-activeness) created by the red group compiled on the basis of the article “Motivation Matters” (Cook et al, 2005) to show the organizations suitability as a perfect employer. This report deals with tasks of Apple seen and presented by the corporation itself as well as by independent observers and employees of the company backed by module themes and theories of B201.

Company Overview

The Apple Corporation was founded in Cupertino, California on April 1, 1976 and incorporated January 3, 1977, by Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs. Apple supplies a range of computer, consumer electronics and related services, including hardware and software. The most popular Apple products are the Imac (a computer), the Iphone (a new generation of touchscreen mobile phone) and the Ipod (which is a market leader in portable MP3 players). In 2010 Apple also started with the commercial launch of the Ipad, a tablet computer. Apple also owns iTunes, a digital music download service.

The Apple Corporation has a market capitalization of approximately 619 billion dollar and it has been the most valuable tech stock and the world's most valuable publicly traded company followed by ExxonMobil with 405 billion dollar (Market Beat, 2012). Apple products are seen as "Must have", a good basic for the future. In 2011 Apple entered the Interbrand list of the 50 top global brands at number 8 (Interbrand, 2011).
