During the last few decades companies are experiencing larger numbers of on the job injuries. Last year, the average business had a 30% increase in on the job injuries and workman’s compensation benefits. The preventing employee injuries are an issue that every company must address to ensure employee safety and decrease company risk. Retaining healthy employees is a challenge because the increase of injuries and the lack of effective on the job training.

Purpose

Management is continually looking for strategies to effectively train employees on how to avoid injuries. Training in lifting, stretching, hazardous materials, and customer service are several important areas that employees must be proficient. Employees’ not reporting injuries is a problem that increases the chance of future disabilities. Many employees are single parents and losing time at work can be financially devastating. Employees may hesitate to report issues because of reprimand, decreased hours, and loss of pay (Boden, 2005).

Some companies are unaware of issues that may arise while employees perform their jobs. Costco employs workers that must labor in stressful conditions, on concrete, and exert themselves physically. One issue that is of concern is the constant transferring of large items such as cases of water from one cart to another. The heavy transferring creates stress on employee backs, arms, wrists, and necks (Boden, 2005).

The survey will help determine the type of injuries and how much time is lost by employees because of those injuries. The question will examine the years with the company, what departments they work, and years of experience. This data will give a clearer picture of why employees are sustaining injuries and ways to prevent them. The survey will give insight into the need for better training and possible changes in policies.
