MODULE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Aims

The aim of this module is to introduce students to a range of key areas that are central to the contemporary understanding of management

Intended learning outcomes:

Discipline specific knowledge and skills:

1. to analyse and discuss key areas in the foundations of management

2. to give examples that illustrate central issues in the foundations of management

3. to evaluate the points of view of key authors in the area of the foundations of management

Transferable skills:

1. Oral communication

LEARNING & TEACHING METHODS

This is a 20 point module, successful completion of which will require 150 hours of study. This will be comprised of 20 hours of lectures (2 hours per week for 10 weeks), 4 hours of seminars (fortnightly during term time) and 126 hours of private study.

Lectures

Lectures will have the main goal of assisting you in your reading. This will involve explaining some of the key concepts in the articles that you are required to read. In this way lectures will firstly help prepare you for reading. Secondly, lectures will apply concepts from the reading to practical examples and will make connections with your other readings.
