Kudler Foods Problem Statement

Kudler Fine Foods is a grocery store that carries fine meats, produce cheese, and wine. The produce they sell is all organic. Kudler Fine Foods is located in the San Diego California area. The company was founded in 1998 and are looking to expand their business to Southern California. They are starting to target locations for expansion that have large populations. That is why they are targeting Carlsbad California as their next location to open a store in.

As Kudler Fine Foods continue to grow and expand, there are several issues that have arised and need to be addressed. Some of the items we discussed were, the management team being too small, organization not structured properly, and perishable food either being given away, or thrown away.

The biggest issue is that the management structure has not changed. Kathy who is the President and founder, is responsible for all operations for Kudler Find Foods. Kathy has grown the management team a little bit by hiring a store manager for each of the locations. However, Kathy is still responsible for the purchasing tasks as well as the inventory tracking for all the locations. In Kudler Fine Foods strategic plan, they have identified this as a risk and are working to put a plan together to address it. The main problem with this is if Kathy were to get hit by a car or get very sick, there is nobody who could step up and take over all Kathy’s responsibilities such as re-ordering products. In Kudler Fine Foods mission statement, they refer to employees as team members. I see them right now as not part of team, but simply doing day-to-day easy tasks. Kathy has not put her trust in her employees and allowed them to take over business critical operations that would help free up Kathy.
