Should tobacco companies be held responsible for smoking-related illnesses and deaths?

Tobacco companies should not be held responsible for the choices a person makes knowing that the outcome could possibly lead to death. What sense does it make to hold companies responsible for a person’s individual’s choice? People know the consequences of smoking and tobacco use. If they choose to continue to do it then that is on them. Many people I talked to when I asked them this question felt that the companies should not be held responsible, but they should not be allowed to advertise the way they do.

Smoking and tobacco use is a person own choice. The tobacco companies should not be held responsible for the choice a person makes to put them in danger. Companies post on all tobacco packaging, commercials and print related advertising that tobacco use can cause cancer and all the dangers of use. Now if a person does not heed those warnings then they should be held responsible for their own medical problems.

Although I feel as if tobacco companies should not be held responsible for a person’s death. I think that their way of advertising could be changed. They make smoking and tobacco use look like everyone is doing it, it’s the cool thing to do, and you will be beautiful if you do it. If they did not advertise the product in this fashion, less people would be inclined to start using tobacco in the first place.

Should tobacco companies be held responsible for smoking-related illnesses and deaths, absolutely not. Smoking and tobacco use is a person’s choice. They know the consequences and they still choose to smoke or use tobacco. Blaming tobacco companies for a person death is like blaming an alcohol manufacture for someone who drank themselves to death or died in an alcohol related car accident.
