More and more traffic is moving over to wireless technology every year. The converging network between voice and data on the data network was an innovative idea. Now, networks in the business field are taking a whole new twist on converged networks. They added a new twist to it, now you can have a converged network using a wireless connection. Having the ability to be able to be mobile and conduct business has been an improvement in efficiency to the business world. Having voice traveling over a basic local area network is a challenge as it is because security is a top issue. With hackers everywhere it is important to protect the voice of these company officials. Also it is important to have dedicated bandwidth because voce is unforgiving and business cannot be conducted if the phone line keeps breaking up. Voice over the Local Area Network has been improved so much and saved companies a lot of money that now companies are looking to expand their savings further by being able to go mobile with the voice. The first issue that needs to be addressed is bandwidth. Of course with the wired local area network there can be plenty of bandwidth to not only carry the data traffic, but to also carry the voice traffic along with the data traffic. With any wireless technology you will lose bandwidth in the connection. The challenge that arises is having a suitable connection to be able to conduct both voice and data traffic. Another issue to go along with the bandwidth issue is security. On a wireless local area network one of the security measures are authentication and encryption. Authentication and encryption must be implemented to the VoIP call which will increase the size of the voice packet. Another issue with having voice on the wireless local area network is when the caller is on the move.
