2. Would you have called a family council meeting when Francisco Jr. did? Why, or why not?

We would have called for a family council meeting; Francisco Jr. was pretty assertive with that important decision. After his father’s death, we are sure that responsibilities started stacking up, how could they not? He had all of the company’s responsibility on his shoulders, and the family’s future was at stake as well. The Vega Food business was not a small operation, and the amount of work to oversee must have been big enough for him to even consider worrying about the possibility of a family conflict. His youngest sister, Mari, was the first one to present a sign of discontent. So, in order to proceed with his day-to-day basis operations and continuity of the business strategic vision, Francisco Jr. needed to clear some air out and provide confidence to every person involved in the business. Even though he worked by his father’s side for a really long time, he knew that he needed to give all the collaborators some sense of reassurance that he was doing his best to continue on the right track.

So, it was clear that some trust issues were going to arise since Francisco Sr. died, and his son knew that the best way to avoid any misunderstanding was they creation of a family council. Mari did not trust him as she should have, and that was not a bad thing because it helped the family at the end of the day. Of course things could have escalated into an ugly fight between all of the siblings, but Francisco Jr. handled the whole situation very well. He knew that her sister was brought up in an environment where the only thing she got to experience was economic prosperity; it was a natural reaction for her to worry about her financial future since she knew nothing else in life.
