Personal Ethical Viewpoint

The Ethical Lens Inventory revealed a lot of interesting information. Some of the information was expected, but of it was new. Overall, it opened my eyes to things that I normally would not notice.

First of all, it showed that my personal preferred lens was the Relationship Lens. According to this lens, I use rationality to decide what processes and systems should be implemented to make sure fairness and justice for all takes place in the community. I believe in equality. This is true and was expected. I think everyone should be treated equally regardless of who they are, they type of work they do, or where they are from.

My blind spot was Overconfidence in the Process. It stated that because I believe that a consistent process results in a just outcome for all, I trust the process too much. My expectations for equality and justice for people are not always obtainable because although everyone should have equality, many will not get equality. It also stated that I believe that ethical decisions are the by-product of a fair system. This I do not totally agree with. I completely understand that even though we strive for equality, it is not always the outcome.

My strength is Authority. It stated that I think through problems carefully and research my options. I pay attention to experts on the subject to find the best solutions. Making fully informed decisions that satisfy the needs, while not affecting the disadvantaged. This was an expected outcome. I have always tried to find the best information from the most reliable sources available to solve problems, while trying to keep everything equal.

My weakness was Isolation and Guilt. With this it states that unless I practice mindfulness and reflection I will become isolated. My “Fair Self” demands a guarantee of justice and fair process and I will resent people who are not grateful which will cause me to feel guilt. In addition, it said that if I find myself...
