Chapter I
The Problem and Its Setting
Introduction
Ceramics are one of the most in demand products in today’s modern world. It is used in building infrastructures like commercial buildings and residential houses, which are needed most especially by our fast growing world. Ceramics are classified as inorganic and nonmetallic materials that are essential to one’s daily life. It is all around us. Some examples include things like tiles, bricks, plates, glass and toilets. It must possess the qualities of being hard brittle, heat-resistant and corrosion resistant. It also provides decorative designs and for easier cleaning used on walls, floors and surfaces. It is thin, rectangular pieces made of fived clay, stone, concrete, cork, rubber and plastic. (Standard Education Corporation, 1996)
Fish bones, on the other hand, have always been byproduct of seafood products which are usually thrown away or being given to stray animals. It’s has always been dangerous when mistakenly stepped on by bare foot because of its hard, sharp edges. Likes bones of other animals, it contains calcium phosphate, making it hard, through fish bones serve only for balancing and sleering of fishes, rather than locomotion. (Hegner & Stiles, 1951)
Another subject of the study is plastics, in form of candy wrappers. Many people, especially children, are of addicted to candies & chocolates, and without awareness, especially children, throw them away after opening it, unknowingly leads to accumulation of plastics on drainages, causing floods. Though plastics have wide ranges of uses, from packaging, electronic parts and so as protection, it is now a big threat to mankind in connection with environmental issues
