(1) How can information itself provide a competitive advantage to an organization? Give examples.

In order to survive in the changing environment, organization should create a competitive advantage and to achieve competitive advantage, information is important for any company.

* Recognizing the environmental and organizational changes quickly, even before other competitors will give an organization a competitive advantage. This is because organization can react and can make necessary changes to their activities before other competitors by using that information. Being a first mover will increase the profitability of the company.

E.g. - Sirasa super star, Millionaire

- Cosmetics and cream producers like: Nature secret and Janet will introduce different types of creams based on the changing needs.

* Information gathered from the market will help the organization to determine the most suitable price of the products. So if they can sell their products at a price which is slightly lower than the price levels of competitors, it will create a competitive advantage to the company.

E.g. Keels super - “we are lower than the lowers”.

* Information will help the organization to introduce change before other competitors. Differentiation from others is important for an organization to attract more and more customers.

E.g. - Etisalate try to differentiate from others by giving more advantage to their customers.

- Apple phones, laptops

- Rolex wrist watches

* Information collected about the competitors from the sources like: annual reports, interviews with analysts, statements by managers, press releases, etc will help the organization to identify the drivers and the capabilities of the competitors.
