When setting up a computer network for an integrated healthcare system one should consider some things first. The goal of having this health information exchange network is to have many different facilities connected to it (Oh, 2010,). By doing this the facilities will be able to ensure quality care to every patient. The company should have a marketing plan in ensure that the other facilities will use this health information exchange network.

The facility should be prepared to show all of the other facilities the benefits of using this networking system (Oh, 2010,). This system can offer many different benefits to everyone who uses it. These benefits include online billing, faster test results, e- prescribing and secure messaging. These benefits could make the doctor decided to connect to this networking system.

Next one would need to make sure that the hospital staff is agreeing to this network system (Oh, 2010,). All employees that work at the hospital must know how this system works and how important it is. If this is not done there can be a weakened productivity and confusion within this system.

The facility should also be aware of the cost that is involved with setting up this networking system (Oh, 2010,). Not only will there be a start up cost there will also be a cost to keep this system running. However the advantage of using this system is that it requires minimal staffing resources and it will help eliminate the need for infrastructure — for the patient, hospital and doctor office — beyond access to the Internet, eliminating large capital outlays.

In order for the network system to be and remain successful, the facility must take several actions. They should be using the following strategies (Boone & Maley, 2000,).
