Effects of News Media

News media has greatly affected the American culture on how the public stays informed concerning the current events of our state and government news. Now that news media is released at a more rapid pace through the internet, the American public can stay more informed than ever before. Although the public can receive the information faster, ethics and precaution still have to be kept in mind the facts remain straight.

Social responsibility has become a key factor in the reporting of news media. The prime benefactor to this would be media ethics. Examples of media ethics would include not publishing the names of juveniles and not displaying the names of rape victims when reporting the news. Media ethics help uphold social responsibility and keep society’s interest as the top priority. It also allows for the public to receive enough information to make a sound decision. News media also gives the public the information they need to stay informed with political views. Keeping Society informed allows American’s to examine political views thoroughly and make educated decisions concerning their support on different views by politicians. The only side effect to keeping the public up to date with a political position is trusting the integrity of the source. Often, certain news media sources post or publish articles based on their biased opinion. So society must rely on thorough research in order to ensure the published view is credible.

The World Wide Web has completely altered the way journalism is delivered to the public. Before the internet, journalist would have the news first but they had to wait until the next printing day in order to get that information to the public. Now the internet gives journalist the capabilities needed to compete with radio and television.
