Vocabulary
Aorta- The aorta is main artery of the body and it supplies oxygenated blood to the circulatory system
Arterioles- One of the small terminal branches of an artery, especially one that connects with a capillary
Artery- Any of the muscular walled tubes forming part of the circulation system by which blood is conveyed from the heart to the rest of the body
Bundle of His- Part of the electrical conduction pathway of the heart and it receives impulses from the AV node.
Capillaries- Any of the fine branching blood vessels that form a network between the arterioles and venules.
Heart vocabulary:
Inferior vena cava- One of the largest veins in the body and it also brings the lower part of the body blood.
Left atrium- Upper, left chamber of the heart- receives oxygenated blood from the pulmonary veins
Mitral valve- Also known as the bicuspid valve- separates the left atrium and the left ventricle
Pulmonary- Of or relating to the lungs
Purkinge fibers- Part of the electrical conduction pathway of the heart- receives messages from the bundle branches
Right atrium- The upper, right chamber of the heart- receives deoxygenated blood from the vena cava
Septum- The wall that separates the heart into right and left pumps
Sinoatrial node- Part of the conduction pathway of the heart- place where the heart beat begins
Superior vena cava- One of the largest veins in the body- brings blood from the upper part of the body to the right atrium
Tricuspid valve- Separates the right atrium from the right ventricle
Vein- Any of the tubes that in most cases carry oxygen-depleted blood to the heart.
Ventricle- A hollow part or cavity in an organ
Venules- A very small vein
