Bullying: The Line That Continues to Be Crossed

Bullying is the line that continues to be crossed daily in society and schools. Bullying, according to stopbullying.gov is an unwanted, aggressive behavior among schooled aged children that involves a real or perceived power influence. People bully for many different reasons because of self-esteem, race, gender, sexual orientation, and etc. I believe that bullying is wrong on so many levels. I believe that bullying is wrong because of the effects it has on the person being bullied.

One example of why I believe bullying is wrong is because of Hazing. Hazing is something that happens in many colleges and other schools in today’s society. I have had friends who have been inducted into different sororities and they had to go through some different hazing’s. In the media there was a band member named Robert Champion, who died because of hazing. Robert Champion was a college student at Florida A&M and he was brutally kicked and suffocated by fellow band members doing a hazing ritual (Brown, 2012.) There have been people arrested in this case for taking place in this hazing ritual. Also when people don’t want to become part of a group they get peer pressured into doing.

Peer pressure is one of the many causes in bullying. Peer pressure can lead to people doing bad things and harming other people. For example, when I was in middle school one of my cousins named Nick was pressured to steal something out of the store by some older guys. Nick told the guys that he did not want to steal and they pressured him into doing it. Nick got caught stealing out of the store and the manager did not call the police. The boys told him that he was cool and whatever. Then the next week they wanted him to do it again. This time he said no and stuck to the decision that he made.
