About me

My name is Mary Guevara. I was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. I arrived to the United States five years ago. I came to this country with a dream in mind, which was to be part of the medical field. I’m a student at LaGuardia Community College. My major is Physical Therapist Assistant, pursuing an Associate’s degree. The medical field is immense and it has many branches, which I chose to become a Physical therapist Assistant. My passion to help people in need is what drove me to choose this career.

When I came to the United States the first obstacle I encountered was the language, which was what delay my studies. However, from that time until now I have been learning a lot. I keep learning English everyday which helps me express myself better. My capacity to master this language…English, will help me succeed in this country and make my dreams come true.

Since I was little, I have always liked to help people, starting from my parents to my friends. The health of a person it’s important and I want to be the one who provides that aid. The human body it’s fascinating and there are many things to learn from it. I want to be able to identify the reason of a back ache or a neck ache. I want to know how to lessen the pain of an individual who is suffering from any of these symptoms. My curiosity is what’s going to make me the best in what I will be doing.

When I came to this country, I learned that one of my uncles was an Occupational Therapist. I was impressed by that, thus, I asked him if he could take me to one of his jobs. He accepted my request and I went to the house of one of his patients. I was delighted by the way he interacted with his patients. Even though they were children, he did an excellent job to gain their love and respect. It was at that moment that I decided to become a physical therapist.
