Today is a technological world. As new computer technologies are made available, there is sure to be someone lurking in the cyber- shadows who is ready to exploit, and take advantage of the lack of PC security. Now that computers are so prevalent, computer crime has become one of the most widespread criminal activities in the world. Internet and technology growth has led to an increase in computer crime and security threat; Computer security means protecting a computer system, and the personal information it contains, with the necessary tools available today.

What most people don’t know is, if at any time, there is a connection to the internet, there is risk for a potential threat. There are many threats to computer security including: a virus, spyware, and malware. Some people say, “It won’t happen to me.” It happens all over the world and Cyber criminals are constantly looking for new ways to attack. It’s important to practice up to date computer security measurements, and never give out personal information.

All computer experts agree, the main threat to a PC is a virus. (korkaew, 2010) There are several tools available that can boost PC security. Some of the most important tools are having a firewall turned on and install a good antivirus to prevent malicious websites from creeping in. A firewall is a barrier that prevents damaging files or programs from reaching your computer. You can find free anti-virus software from well-known companies, such as Microsoft.com and AVG. (Microsoft.com. 2013). When users open an e-mail message or an e-mail attachment containing a virus, they release it onto their computer. As a virus propagates, it uses up so much memory, that it can slow down a computer system to the point that it becomes unusable.
