I had visited the Macomb County Crisis Center here in Michigan for the interview. I chose a suicide crisis counselor to do the interview. The website is http://www.mccmh.net/. The interviewee is named Pat Robashaw. Here are the questions as follows:

What is the reason that you have become interested in crisis management?

It started because of personal experience. When I was younger, around the age of 18 and in my last year of school, my relative passed away by suicide, the rest of my family had no idea because there was no warning signs, and we did not know how to handle or cope with such a traumatic, violent, and unexpected death of someone we loved dearly.

How has your personal values affected upon the performance of your duties that are required?

It is very difficult having values that are different from those that are required within my performance of my duties, however, I have to push to make myself to realize that not everyone has not been through the exact same experience as I have. Every client or every case is different, and my values cannot get in the way of the values, respect, needs, and wants of every individual or case.

How different is this responsibility from what you have expected when starting your position?

I always like to do what I think is best for the client or patient. In my line of work I cannot always do that, as I thought when I got into and started this job. Instead; I have to follow rules, regulations and guidelines.

What is the most rewarding part about your work or what you change about your job if it was a possibility?

This is an easy question. The answer is what I do every day when I come to work. In my line of work I decrease the amount of suicide deaths to actually witness and see change. I can describe this by stating that there are twice as many deaths in America from AIDS/HIV and almost twice as many suicides as homicides. In the end, if I can just make one change in one individuals life...
