Changes and innovations can be difficult to accept simply because it is something new that we have never experienced before; among those changes are advances in the equipment and processes because of the advancement of technology. Sometimes an organization will make changes and innovations that they feel will be beneficial to the company as a whole. There will always be those who are resistant and are reluctant although it is proven that the change will improve the functionality. So it is very important as a health care organization to learn and know exactly how to manage change, understand why employees may resist change and the role that the human resources department can play in managing the change. If the organization manages the change effectively the transition will be made easier for everyone including the reluctant employees.

Before introducing the staff to the use of electronic medical records, the organization needs to have a few strategies on how to manage the new innovation. First and foremost is ensuring that there is effective communication throughout the entire process. Clear communication is just as important as allowing others including employees to engage in the conversation as well. So this means the communication needs to be a two way street allowing each party to speak and listen. Determining the appropriate timing is also a important strategy for managing change. In a sense timing is everything as it can determine whether a change is successful or not. For example, if a company has 10 new hires, it would great timing to introduce the change because management would be able to shape them into the change. If they were not new hires they would need to break the cycle of using physical medical records and learn something new. Another strategy that will make the transition easier is to help the employees affected by the change understand the benefit of the innovation.
