Problem

Does cloud cover effect night time temperatures?

Hypothesis

If the measurement of the clouds increase then the temperature will decrease. This hypothesis is justified because if there is cloud cover then it might be cold outside.

Materials

You will need a:

Thermometer

Notebook

Pencil

Procedures

1.Find a location outside your house.

2.The first night, check the thermometer at sunset. Record time and temperature

3.Look at sky ,predict the percentage of cloud cover you see. Use a graph.

4.Go outside again a little later. Record temperature, percentage of cloud cover, and time.

5.Repeat steps 2-4 for 13 night. Make your observations at the same times from your first night.

Abstract

The purpose of my experiment is if you are going outside and you see a lot of clouds you can know if it is cold outside. The first thing you need to do to find if clouds outside effects the temperature is go outside record the temperature and predict the cloud cover percentage or get it online. Then 4 hours later do the same thing and repeat this for 13 days. That’s the procedures I used to do my project. The data I got from my project for days 1-7 was the average cloud cover percentage is 47% and the average of the temperature is 38 degrees Fahrenheit. For days 8-14 the average cloud cover percentage is 60% and the average temperature is 42 degrees Fahrenheit. My conclusions on this project is that cloud cover does not effect nighttime temperature because out of 14 days only 4 days proved my hypothesis was correct.
