INTRODUCTION

Castle’s Family Restaurant has eight restaurants in the northern California area with approximately 300–340 employees. Most of the employees are part time, with approximately 40% of them full time. The operations manager, Jay Morgan, also acts as the HR manager and travels to each location each week to take care of scheduling, recruiting, hiring, and answering questions for the employees as needed. He also takes care of payroll using an Excel spreadsheet and has a computer application to print payroll checks. Mr. Morgan approaches me, as HR consultant, for a proposal in which help him to reduce travel time to each location as well as managing HR tasks at the office in order to efficient and cost-effectively.

BUSINESS ASSESSMENT

Castle’s Family Restaurant is locating in Northern California. Currently, they have total eight restaurants that operate by 340 employees out of that 204 are full-time and 136 part-time. According to Occupational Outlook Handbook, food service managers are responsible for the daily operations of restaurants and other establishments that prepare and serve food and beverages to customers. Managers ensure that customers are satisfied with their dining experience (BLS, 2013). Based on currently situation, Castle’s Family Restaurant have been operating the business and everything else at individual location rather than unionize.
