Slavery Paper on the Big Debate Sparked by Moses Brown in 1783

In 1783, A man named Moses Brown told Rhode Island’s government that he hope to stop slavery and stop all the slave trades. Since then, a big debate about what should the government do starts and the true choice is absolutely emancipate all the salves immediately and completely. Since 1600s, black people start to be brought to America to be slaves. They have to work in a extremely bad condition and amazingly long time with almost no income. Although some of them become skillful later and start to do some job but they still can’t have a good life. Because usually slaves need to live in the master’s house and have little privacy. Slave families are often divided among different households. So it’s really difficult for enslaved people in to establish and maintain a family which is absolutely one of the most important parts of a person’s life. So slavery is absolutely a evil thing and should be emancipated immediately and completely. There is no difference between white people and black people, just like what Samuel Sewall (The author of The Selling of Joseph) said “It is most certain in that all Men, as they are sons of Adam are Coheirs; and have equal right unto Liberty, and all other outward Comforts of Life... So that originally, and naturally, there is no such thing as Slavery.”(Sewall P28).So black people should have the same social position as white people. Another important factor is that during the slave trade, lots of slaves can’t survive and died on the ocean which is absolutely not humane. For example, On August 20, 1765, Captain Hopkins bought 196 slaves and starts to come back. During the navigation, lots of slaves died and only 88 slaves survived which means one half of the slaves died. (Hopkins P8-9)After the navigation, Brown brothers said “We need not mention how
