Treatment Phase Report

The behavioral deficit lacking that we are going to treat is not eating healthy snacks. Healthy snacks are defined by only fruits or vegetables and snacking is defined by any time other than that of breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The method of treatment being used during this treatment phase is going to be the Mental Contrasting with Implementation Intentions (MCII) method. This method includes first writing down and completing the following sentence. “If I [obstacle] and I feel like having a snack, then I will eat a(n) [choice of fruit]. Along with the sentence completion the next two minutes are spent visualizing situations that may come up in the next two weeks where an unhealthy snack may be desired and how you will handle it. Starting that day and for the next two weeks, keeping a food journal of the snacks you intake is required.

The treatment phase took place between February 26th-March 10th, 2012 where both unhealthy and healthy snacks were recorded.Results dimensions include frequency, duration, intensity, and latency. The frequency is the number of times the behavior occurs; in this case it is the number of snacks consumed in that particular day, whether healthy or unhealthy, varying from zero to as many as three snacks per day. The frequency is shown on the chart along the y-axis. Duration, the amount of time occupied, intensity, the amount of force or energy, and latency, the time of stimulus until the event, could not be measured for this baseline.

Looking at the chart for the report of the treatment you can see that the amount of healthy snacking is significantly more than unhealthy snacking. While there is some unhealthy snacking it is very minimal, most days it does not occur at all and we wanted those numbers to decrease significantly and they did.
