Who is in charge?

His approach to the managers was collaborative. He created a guiding coalition. He developed and communicates the vision and strategy. He thought about the response from the managers and then validated the thought process with Allen. He was adaptive and seeking feedback. He is a quick learner. He put a structure around the execution. He doesn’t hesitate to seek help and upward appeal.

Weaknesses

Jim took responsibility rather empowering them.

He did not indentify the influential person in the group and have a stagey in place to resolve the conflict. He wants to immediately escalate to his boss.

Recommendation:-

Empower the managers for more inclusion in the process.

Provide platform for others to provide feedback and suggestions.

How should Jim handle Kathy?

Being identified as influential manager, Jim should have consulted her before putting up the process. He should have used the time between the observations and the training to understand her need and work towards including her in the process. He should have one on one with her and even use the threat of reprimand, if necessary. He should not assume that she is unwell and take action accordingly. He would have built in process for expenses account to empower managers.

What does he do next and why?

Jim should arrange a platform to persuade Patty. Jim should investigate about other hidden nay Sayers. Once finalized, he should arrange another session with team to communicate the changes. He should establish the system of recognition and reward – both for following the process and also meeting the targets.
