Case Summary of Ricky

Ricky Curry is a 27 year old African American man of middle socioeconomic status that sought out counseling because his wife felt he was becoming overwhelmed with situations in his life that started to make him depressed. Ricky received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. He has been married to his loving wife, Olivia, who he met while attending Coastal Carolina University for 5 years. Olivia grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and is also 27 years old. The two of them have two children, Ricky, Jr (3) and Natasha (1).

Ricky was born in Texas but grew up in Germany then Conway, South Carolina. His parents Ricky and Clara are a retired military officer and a school counselor. Clara is also an associate minister. They have a second son, Marcus (23), who is a senior at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. Ricky and his younger brother had a fairly good childhood, even though the two on them got in trouble from time to time.

Ricky and Olivia currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia, and have been there for the past two years. Ricky works as a radio broadcaster for a local radio station and Olivia is an RN at Grady Memorial Hospital. The family had more than enough money since Ricky also deejays on the side at night clubs and weddings. Finances started to become a problem when Ricky had to have a major surgery done when Olivia was 8 months pregnant with Natasha. Money was already becoming scarce because of the frequent doctor visits and daycare for RJ when it was needed. Olivia secretly started to ask her parents for the extra money that was needed for the family to get by on. Ricky found out because Olivia accidently left a check laying around that her dad had written for her to deposit. That was the start of their marital problems because Ricky became devastated....
