Course Description: This course offers intensive study of the practices and problems of management with respect to air cargo. The importance of air cargo service to the economy, development of the industry, regulations, complexity of the market, carriers, freight forwarders and third party logistics, along with rate and tariff problems, aircraft, terminal facilities, and future prospects are all discussed. Course Goals: This course is designed to give the student an in-depth understanding of the cargo industry and the complexities involved in the movement of air cargo. This course provides an extensive study of the history of the air cargo industry from its early beginnings from carrying the mail, through the impact of the events of 9/11. The economics of the business of air cargo, management problems, regulations governing airfreight, impact on society, airfreight and the environment, cargo agents, customers, and future growth are examined.

Learning Outcomes (LO): Upon course completion, students will be able to: 1. Discuss the history and evolution of the air cargo industry. Describe the impact of the Air Cargo Deregulation Act of 1977 and recognize common airfreight terminology. Assess the latest air cargo security regulations. (BSTM PO-3, BSTM PO-4) 2.
