Methicillin –resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) infection can occur in many different parts of the body. It is an bacterium that is commonly seen on the skin. It causes infections like skin irritation, sores and boils. In extreme cases it can cause more destruction in the surgical wounds, the lungs, bloodstream, and the urinary tract. Its name is gained from its resistance to an antibiotic treatment called Methicillin.

Symptoms of MRSA are relative to where the infection occurs. More than likely, most infection occur on the skin. In most cases, MRSA infection is not that serious, but when the infection attack those with problems such as immune compromised individuals, the results can be life threatening. A super bug is described as a MRSA infection that is extremely hard to treat.

There are a variety of staph infections that are able to survive inside of our bodies. Health individuals can walk around with staff without and symptoms of an infection. “In fact, one third of everybody has staph bacteria in their noses.” (Karriem-Norwood,, 2014) Most staph infection inter the body through a cut in the skin where it can cause severe infection. According to studies, infections involving staph are the most common infections found in Americans. These infections prove to have a minimal effect on those people who carry the bacterium. However, in severe cases, pneumonia and infected wounds are associated with staph infection.

Antibiotics have been used over the years to treat many types of bacterial infections. The over use of these drugs have led to resistance by certain strains of bacterium. Staph infections like MRSA no longer respond to such antibiotic treatments. MRSA first made its arrival on the scene in 1961. Today, MRSA is not resistant to many antibiotics including penicillin, oxacillin, methicillin, amoxicillin and other antibiotics. Despite researcher’s efforts to contain the disease, MRSA continues to gain resistance.
