Doppelganger Nature VS Nurture

The book doppelganger is about Andrew – who has lived in Sydney all his life – being plucked from his world, and being put into another parallel universe where the entire earth is in jeopardy, full of gang wars, murderers and drugs. Andrew must learn to survive and adapt. In this essay I will be discussing Nature VS Nurture and my personal opinion if I believe that people are born evil, as opposed to being evil because of their surroundings while growing up. The two most significant characters I will be debating off are Andrew and Josh. In Andrew’s real Sydney, Josh is his best friend. Although lots of people see him as an okay guy, Josh is actually a really bad bully that has done lots of horrible things to younger and even older people. The Josh in the ‘parallel Sydney’ is like a bully in a school yard, but much, much worse. He is the leader of the hellboys and one of the most powerful people in the gang wars that happen in the train tunnels – aside from Kurtz of course. In both worlds Josh has always been a bully, as well as a leader – this shows that no matter what universe he is in – he always has certain traits that are with him.

The Andrew from the real Sydney is actually a really good kid, considering that his father was gone, and his mother was really struggling to look after him. All that he cared about was leaving the city and saving enough money to go on his cricket tournament. Kurtz on the other hand looks exactly like Andrew, but was brought up in a more horrible place, surrounded by killing and drugs. He became evil, despite how good his heart might have been. In the last couple of pages Andrew refuses to take another human life, he believes that he needs his soul to be clean and doesn’t want to destroy what was left of it after killing that other boy. This just proves that it depends where you live, on how you act, instead of actually being born with an evil personality.

In that one case yes; I do believe that it’s...
