Autism is something that the doctors are still trying to figure out why this affects so many children of today. This disorder is something that is very complicated especially when it comes to the parents. This is also the type of disorder that can ultimately hurt the child since they can’t express their feelings.

We ask ourselves what really is Autism and where does it come from? Well the doctors really don’t know where in the process of the development of the fetus it disconnects with our chromosomes. According to Fink (2008), there are several different behaviors that are associated with Autism for example Catatonia, compulsive self-injurious behaviors, prolonged staring, posturing, rigidity, mutism, negativism, echolalia and echopraxia which can be very overwhelming for the family and also when the child in school. From what the doctors state that there is some type of medicine that can help the children with some of the affects of having autism but does it really help the child though?

Autism spectrum disorders are abnormal behaviors that become apparent early in childhood. More severe forms disrupt education, maturation, and family life. No effective treatment is known, and children and families must learn to live with the disability, assisted by special education, family counseling, and symptomatic medications (Fink, 2008). It is very interesting that they will try and use the electroshock therapy for the helping of the Catatonia state in the children. There is no way any parent would let the doctor use this type of therapy for their children. Not only does it fry the brain cells it can cause serious damage to the children.
