The Last Lecture

When first clicking on to this U Tube link I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. The title the last lecture didn’t give much other that something about childhood dreams. My first thought about the video was, this is going to be a very long hour. As Mr. Pausch began to speak he quick grabbed the attention of everyone in the room including myself. I especially loved how he addressed the elephant in the room. What a great way to put a spin on something you don’t really want to put out there but need to.

As the lecture began he started out by arching his childhood dreams and what he had accomplished in life. Personally some pretty amazing things. He then jumped to topics as helping others to attain their dreams. Some concepts that he discussed that we have covered our current chapters were teamwork and leadership. Many of the things he accomplished we attained with groups of people and he was more than happy to give credit where credit was due. Once great statement in the lecture was “Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted”. We may not get every job or promotion that we want but that shouldn’t stop us from striving to do be and keep achieving.

Mr. Pausch was not just a speaker, a teacher, and a professor; he was a genius in his own time. I was awe struck at the way in which he led his life and how he intended to live out the rest of his life. He gave excellent meaning to things in life and how we should approach things in the workforce as well. Another great statement in his lecture was “Brick walls are there for a reason, they let us prove how badly we want things”. That statement really spoke volumes to me. I have fought very hard to be where I am today and have broken through many brick walls.
