Outlining what the course description asserts, I have taken into account how to identify, develop, and critique personal needs and values. This class has been truly valuable, especially emphasizing the importance of academics, goal setting, diversity, interpersonal relationships, career planning, healthy behaviors, leadership, community service, and the overall responsibility of lifestyle choices. Each lecture presented a unique topic that has broadened my sense in various aspects of life. The speakers were motivating, educating, interactive, and provided worthy knowledge regarding their areas of expertise. I was able to walk away from the lectures with new insight on specific topics, each which could be applied short-term and long-term.

One assignment that seemed to have a great effect on me was the construction of my resume. This was one of the most helpful and relevant assignments that truly stuck out to me, being that it is a pertinent step in searching for or beginning a career. Not only did I learn the proper formatting of a resume, but I also noticed the positives that the resume embedded and what it lacked. It was evident that I needed more work experience in addition to leadership and community services. In some sense, creating this resume was a preview of my life and enabled me to recognize my accomplishments, academically, athletically, and even socially. One of the last lectures called “Career Planning and Development”, given by you, further emphasized the importance of a resume and thus how it’s the commencement of career planning. From this particular class period, along with others, I learned the significance of developing materials and skills necessary for career development and have even started to apply them. I have applied for several internships in the New York, Boston, and Philadelphia area and hope to earn a position so I can enhance my knowledge in the work field I am interested in.
