These people that were moved to Clarkston, Georgia. Were moved due to the fact that their lives were in serve danger. While families were resettling in this new place were faced with a new problem daily. The town’s people of Clarkston didn’t like them being there and they didn’t care for them because they didn’t speak English.

Some of the problems that the refugees are facing in Clarkston are due to people not wanting to accept them as their own. The town’s people resented the refugees because the town that they grew up in was quickly changing from a society of whites to a society that is full of diversity. The citizens of Clarkston were given multiple opportunities to have themselves heard. They also were never confronted and asked if they would approve or oppose the government moving the refugees to their town.

The refugees have a back story that are the reason they act the way they do now. Beatrice Ziaty’s and her boys were in the middle of a war zone when strange men knock on their door, this startled the Ziaty family. The men barge into the house and request that Beatrice’s husband is to be removed because he has government money. “You got all the government money—we got to get rid of you,” on of the men said to Ziaty (St. John 27). He repeatedly said that he didn’t have access to it and that he was only a paymaster. The men threated to kill him if he didn’t give them the money. While the men were beating Beatrice’s husband she grabbed her two sons and fled from their home. They fled to the town of Darlington, they traveled by night and in the cover of thickets to make sure they were unseen. While they were in Darlington, Beatrice’s oldest son Krahn left his home and traveled to see his mother and his brothers.
