Some interesting facts that I learned from the video Kilowatt Ours. I learned that nuclear power isn’t a form of green energy, It actually causes radioactive which is extremely polluting. Mercury pollution comes from coal power plants. It affects our lungs and causes a lot of problems for children, such as lung and ear infections.

The energy star system was formed so that we can save on electricity use. These certified appliances and light bulbs run more efficiently. Sixty one percent of our energy comes from coal. New Mexico holds some of the largest Uranium reserves in America, and the health impacts on the locals are severe. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited park in America over 10 million visitors visit the park per year and it’s the most polluted. Geothermal is seventy percent more efficient than your air conditioner or heater. The geothermal unit takes water which is circulated through pipes to tap the stable 59 degree temperature below the ground reducing the electricity required to keep buildings comfortable for occupants.  One of the most cost affective things that they have seen in the recent years is sealing your air duct work in the air conditioning systems it reduces energy consumption by a tremendous amount.  In Austin their Energy’s conservation program provides the same amount of energy as building a coal fired power plant, but for half the price making it the cleanest and cheapest source of new energy.
