Lifestyle Factors in Maintaining Healthy Bones
Bones have many important jobs such as protecting vital organs, securing muscles, providing structure to support our body and also storing calcium. During childhood and adolescence years, it’s important to protect bone health while in developmental stages. It’s critical to educate yourself on what affects bones health, prevent destiny loss, and possible side effects later in life (Adult Health, 2014).
There are many factors which play into bone health. Since your bones store calcium, it’s important to have a diet which is high in calcium and vitamin D. Some researchers believe bones can become weak depending on the levels of tobacco and alcohol use, which will prohibit calcium to be absorb into your bones. Low hormone levels of testosterone or estrogen lead to loss in bone mass. Maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise every day. Get active by playing your favorite sport or even enjoy a hobby which involves physical activity. Continue making healthy lifestyle choices by not smoking, avoiding drugs, and watching your diet to keep your bones healthy for many years (Adult Health, 2014; NIAMS, 2014).
Over the years inadequate care of your bones will result in osteoporosis. Early signs include braking bones or fractures which can be painful. Just remember, your bones are changing all the time, and it is important to take care of your bones at any age (NIAMS, 2014).
