MaryKay Business Model

In the analysis of the MaryKay business model, I believe that there are two customer relationships. The relationship between the company itself and the independent beauty consultant, and the relationship between the consultant and the customers who by the product.

MaryKay, Inc. is a direct sales company that sell cosmetic products through distributors that are known as independent beauty consultants. The business model that MaryKay sells its cosmetics through is best described as a multi-level marketing model. The company provides each consultant with all the tools and support they need to be successful at whatever level of success the consultant determines they want. The company stands on three key values, and values them in a specific order. 1st God; 2nd Family; and 3rd Career. This provides an atmosphere that you cannot receive in the majority of jobs, because they want your career to be first! The company really focuses on empowering women, and has made an effort to support cancer reach, and efforts to prevent domestic violence against women, through the MaryKay Ash Charitable Foundation.

The company showers the independent consultants in many ways with free gifts, and magnificent event to learn and be rewarded publicly for the success that each consultant has attained. Of course MaryKay is famous for the Pink Cadillac cars, which are a significant prize for achieving a high status with the company. Today the company has grown, that they offer additional vehicle to consultants at other levels, before reaching the supreme level of earning a pink Cadillac. The company provides something for all with in the Beauty Consultant Force across the world.

The company acts as the wholesale distributor to the consultant selling them the product as 50% of the MSRP, which then allows room for the consultant make money as well. No other cosmetic or jewelry multi-level marketing provide an opportunity for their consultants to make as...
