CSR analysis

Environment

The ISO 14001 is licensed to just the manufacturing and repair services in Ontario why are other sites excluded? Also, the blackberry waste reduction plan applies to only offices in Ontario why not all its offices globally? Since waste reduction gives the highest environmental safety as stated by the US environmental protection agency (epa.gov 2013). Blackberry claim responsible use of renewable energy, but according to Greenpeace, blackberry does not have clean electricity or a plan to boost use of renewable energy (thegurdian.com 2011).

Health and Safety

Blackberry claim to create a safe workplace through contractor and ergonomics services, but the victory of creating a safe workplace through these services is not known.

Employees

Blackberry listens to employee’s feedback yearly. But whether employee’s feedback is used to make improvements is not known and the act of listening to employee’s feedback on a yearly basis is not sufficient enough. There are other advantages or benefits that could be provided for employees such as flexible benefit: which allow employees to choose the benefits that suit them (employeebenefit.com 2013).

Community

Blackberry gives back to the community through charity by supporting the ‘free the children program’ that let children to accomplish their prospective as agents of change (freethechildren.com 2013). Also blackberry claim to give educational supports to the communities, but whether the educational assistance blackberry gives is sufficient enough to educate the communities cannot be measured.

EXTERNAL FACTORS

SECURITY: The UAE, India and Saudi Arabia threatened to ban the use of blackberry service for security reasons. (cbc.ca 2013)

EASE OF DOING BUSINESS: From the ease of doing business ranking, the united kingdom is rated 10,united state 4 and Canada 19( doingbusiness.org 2013).
