Phase1 - Individual Project

The United States Government is divided into 3 separate branches, each having a specific role in the everyday operation. This paper will describe each and its function, but will also inform you as to why we have three separate branches. Also explained will be the four different components of the criminal justice system and the role of each. First, we will also look at federalism and its impact on the current criminal justice system.

Feudalism by definition is “a social system that existed in the middle Ages, and that all lands were held by the land for a fee, in the service of tenants under arms and in the court (Merriam Webster, 2014). This basically meant that the land was ruled by the King and the nobles. Our Constitution is based on Feudalism, and the sharing of power by the state and federal levels of government. The impact on the criminal justice system is that it removes the power from one agency and shares it for corruption and complete control of laws to be enacted and ruled by the Nobles. Without this type of system there would be only one power who would be able to say what, and if any laws pertained to them and others. The system in place now removes the possibility, for the most part, of corruption and complete power (New World Encyclopedia, 2008).

The three (3) branches of the Government are the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. The first we will discuss is the Legislative branch; it is composed of the Senate, and House of Representatives, who job is to enact legislation, votes for/against Presidential appointments to positions, and also has the power to declare war. Those appointed to the Legislative Branch are voted into office by the citizens of the United States.
