The purpose of this paper is to explore the cause, control and prevention of infectious diseases and injuries as they affect the combat effectiveness of a soldier, specifically STIs and bacterial or viral infections due to hygiene compromise and sports related injuries. To explore, explain, research and track this information epidemiological surveillance will be essential as it will help with the exploration and the translation of the finding into an understandable and comprehensive format. The population that will be effected by this study is both deployed and non-deployed military personal, specifically Army soldiers both enlisted and commissioned. We will curtail the population to soldiers who are currently deployed or in a deployable ready status in support of a current conflict or currently directly support in a forward (warzone) environment.

This information is essentially important to the sustainment of forces, and to continue to preserve healthy troops. From history we have constantly learned that the greatest cause for casualties is not battlefield death but illness or other non- combat related injury. For example the Army supports a systemic cycle of pre train up, deployment and redeployment what is known as a deployment cycle, a comprehensive process that ensures Soldiers, DA civilians and their families are better prepared and sustained throughout the deployment cycle. It is a tool used to prepare all involved for the deployment process, so when it comes to a the actual Soldiers it sets the standard for what should and should not ensure to properly prepare and sustain them from deployed activity, one of those criteria is health and wellness.
