CRESTWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROFILE

Crestwood Elementary offers extensive opportunities for its multicultural Pre-K to Grade 5 population. The Administration, Highly Qualified Teachers, and Staff work together to enforce a unified curriculum that consists of challenging and diverse programs with emphasis on meeting the needs of the individual child. Our school goals reflect and incorporate the strategies and skills initiated by the Nevada State Department of Education and federal law according to No Child Left Behind.

PHILOSOPHY, MISSION, VISION

The Philosophy of Crestwood Elementary School is to “Achieving success and growth through hard work, grit and perseverance (Crestwood Elementary Administrative Team, 2014). The school’s mission is to work collaboratively to provide a quality education in an engaging environment which facilitates student successes for college and career readiness (Crestwood Elementary Administrative Team, 2014). Although not specified in the staff handbook, the vision of the school is to prepare primary to 5th grade students to become successful members of their community using the strategies learned in academics as well as peer engagement.

SCHOOL DEMOGRAPHICS

Crestwood Elementary is operated under the Clark County Public School system in Las Vegas, Nevada. The school has a student/teacher ratio is 20:1 and 85% of the school is on free/reduced lunch (Crestwood Elementary School, 2014). The student population is 78.6% Hispanic, 11.5% Caucasian, and 4.6% African-American with a total of 723 students (Crestwood Elementary School, 2014). There are currently 73 faculty and staff at Crestwood. There are 8 African-American faculty/staff (11%); 36 Caucasian faculty/staff (49%); 26 Hispanic faculty/staff (35%); and 3Asian faculty/staff members (4%). The school is located in the downtown area of Las Vegas. The majority of the community, 56.3%, is Hispanic followed by 31.3% Caucasian, 6.6% African-American, and 8.5% other ethnicities...
