It is very important for me as a nurse student and human being to be aware of other peopleā€˜s struggles and needs. Hunger relief is one reachable solution and it just does not make sense that anyone should be hungry. Food and nutrition are basic necessities that we can help provide to needy people. I recently participated in Feeding America project, whose main objective was to provide food to children, homeless and poor families through food pantries and meal programs in hunger stricken communities across America.

All human being deserve the basic nourishment to live healthy life. I was very pleased and proud to give my personal time to support Feeding America Tampa Food Bank. I believe in the value of giving by participating in hunger relief programs since it is a blessing to others and to us to give kindness. As a participant my duties included sorting through fresh produce, bakery items, and non-perishable products that was to be delivered to needy families.

Working at Feeding America helped me to gain new experiences and insights. Volunteering enabled me to get involved with new things and develop technical, social, and academic skills that could not be learned in a classroom. I also learned that creating connections with people no matter the age, building relationships with people is crucial.

Networking is an amazing benefit of volunteering, and as a student I gained a lot of professional skills and had access to a breadth of knowledge from my co-volunteers. The experiences gained as a volunteer were worth way more than any money I could have gotten from another line of work. Volunteer work made me feel good and enabled me build self-confidence and lift up the spirits.
