What Does Freedom Mean to My Family?

That what many people do not seem to appreciate that much anymore is how that their forefather’s fought for the wonderful lives that U.S. citizens have today. If those remarkable men had not put their lives on the line against the Communist British Monarchy then, American lives would be much different today. Freedom is what they fought for, and is the basis of the “American dream” they created, which affects every aspect of American lives. If more people appreciated freedom, I think that our society would be more good.

Sadly, my family is one of the many that does not fully appreciate freedom, in fact, they are all communists. My father emigrated from the Soviet Union in 1983, and often says how he misses it, and how ridiculous it is that people can actually choose what they get to do when they grow up. He says that when he grew up, he had no choice but to be a professional maker of pant zippers. He also says how it is the worst job in the world, and that it is meant for the dumbest of the dumb. He really wants me to make pant zippers too, which I find inspiring. My mother on the other hand, is a major drug addict. She doesn’t seem to appreciate freedom much either, but rather wants to spend her time with her drugs-how selfish. When I asked her thoughts of my freedom essay, she said, “widoncha git me some ‘o dat drank.”

Since my family does not really appreciate freedom, I have to miss out on a lot of the things that the kids around me get to do. A lot of my friends are allowed to leave their house, and even watch Oprah. It makes me sad when I am forced to work on my homework the whole time I am at my home, in my house, but my parent’s say it makes me smarter. I think freedom will make me smarter though, like really smart. If I was able to do the stuff my friends can do, I would be smart, I know it. I would have the memory of an elephant!
