Homeland Security Act of 2002

Abstract

The Homeland security act of 2002 was enacted on November 25, 2002 by President George W Bush in response to the September 11 attacks. Homeland security act created the United States Department of Homeland Security and the new cabinet-level position of Secretary of Homeland Security (Homeland security). The Department of homeland security primary mission was to prevent terrorist attacks within the United States by reducing the vulnerability of the United States to terrorism and minimize the damage if terrorist attacks that do occur within the United States and assist from recovering from the attack (HSA act 2002, 2002).

Homeland Security act 2002

On September 11, 2002 there were terrible attacks were performed by terrorists who caused mass panic around USA from foreign threats and lack of safety. In response to this threat under the public law department of homeland security was established under homeland security act. The main goal of this act was safety of USA and its people from foreign threats for securing the country by enhancing preparedness and response efforts and to integrate these efforts with prevention work (Wiki, 2002).

The Department of homeland security also has threat level scale which is called homeland security advisory system which identifies threats in scales from low to severe (Figure 1).

Establishments of HSA 2002

Directorate for information analysis and infrastructure protection was established within department of Homeland security (DHS) which is headed by undersecretary, the DHS supersedes other departments like customs service, coast guard and US secret service.
