Attitudes and satisfaction

This case is about the attitude of the Amazon warehouse workers towards their job, together with the overall satisfaction they get out of it. How satisfied are these workers with their jobs and what could be improved? Are the current management practices suitable or not? This case will investigate the relationship of the management decisions and the attitudes of the employees towards their jobs. The case will be supported by several relevant behavior theories and academic articles.

Theory: Equity Theory, cognitive dissonance, self-perception theory, framework for the consequences of job dissatisfaction.

Research question: How satisfied are Amazon warehouse employees with their jobs, and what can be done about it?

How do the working conditions affect one's attitude towards their job?

As with our case about amazon, it is evident that the employees there have an unfair distribution of the workload. According to the cognitive component of the attitude toward their jobs, they evaluate their job as too demanding and too stressful. This leads to a behavioral component towards their job, leading to de-motivation and a negative attitude. This is supported by the aforementioned theories. The employees score very low on organizational commitment, this follows from the high employee turnover within the company. Dissatisfied employees have a negative impact on the workplace, in a destructive way. By complaining about the work and leaving the jobs, the morale is lowered. Low morale leads to low job commitment, resulting in a vicious circle. But on the other hand, it leads to high productivity and efficiency. In order for the employee not to lose his job, he has to work on his very limits and show his best. Which is beneficial to the company, they get a warehouse in return with maximum efficiency and a fast package handling system, but at the cost of the well-being of the employee....
