The US Educational System- An Archaic Paradigm

* Educating- the imparting and acquiring of knowledge through teaching and learning.

* Training- the process of bringing a person to an agreed standard of proficiency by practice and instruction.

The education system in the United States is severely flawed. From administrator to student, the goal is not to educate but to train. The main objective of the US education system is to condition society to be useful and profitable, consisting of efficient and docile individuals. No longer is imparting and acquiring knowledge paramount. Training the student to become proficient in standardized testing has become the primary focus in education. Students are no longer encouraged to become inquisitive, creative, unique individuals. Rather, they are encouraged to follow a restrictive curriculum and to perform only the task at hand, such as an employee in a company. One of the major fallacies of this system is that no two children are the same. Not only do people have different interests but they also have different ways of learning. Consequentially, society will not progress as rapidly in the future, as it has in the past.

From the moment a child enters kindergarten, they are told where to sit, where to line up, where to stand, when to nap, etc., much like what you see in today’s workforce. An employee is told when to clock in, when to clock out, when to eat lunch, when to take breaks, and don’t we all experience an increasing amount of traffic, around the same time, every day, on certain days, of the week? From the beginning of our educational careers we are conditioned to become part of a herd, as we are in our professional careers. Creating an efficient employee, instead of a future leader.

But educators are not the ones to blame, they are doing what they are told; they are merely proverbial slaves answering to their master. The...
