Learning Curve Theory

Learning curve theory is very important/useful in a variety of business applications. In relation to software development or any product created, learning curve theory is primarily utilize. Learning curve theory is utilize to show the relationship between the unit production time and the cumulative number of units produced. Therefore in the future as organizations continue to repeat a particular process, they essential gain skills from their experiences and production time improvements results. According to Jeffrey K Pinto, “some research, in fact, supports the idea that performance improves by a fixed percentage each time production doubles” (Pinto, 2016).

In accordance to Project Management, the learning curve theory plays a critical part. Project Management is the process of monitoring, planning, and controlling a set of task. These task all have beginning, ends, and outcomes. The Project Management process is define within three constraints which are, time, cost, and scope. Learning curve theory falls right in the category of time and cost. This is exactly why learning curve theory is critical to project management. Project Management often at times have many task are associated with time cost. For example a certain project might cost X amount of dollars to complete in 3 or 4months. However this depends on the client and when they might want the product to be implemented. Either way, when time/resources are of the essence there is always a possibility that cost could fluctuate. The learning curve theory will then show a graphic representation of the repetitive task that were done during the project. This can lead to an opportunity for reduction in activity duration, resources, and...
