There are more than 800 million Facebook users worldwide who connect with each other, share pictures, links and reveal personal information to each other. Facebook is a huge social technologic invention to bring the world closer together. Unfortunately with the great social advantages of Facebook it’s even more dangerous than people realize. Facebook has been applauded by many for its colassal network potential, but it could also be a source of destruction. People are emotionally depressed and are in social isolationism, people have become addicts, and there are a large number of hackers and stalkers connected with Facebook. The best possible solution for these troublesome issues is teach kids how to use Facebook properly in school, changing peoples’ privacy settings, and the government needs to watch over Facebook carefully for the greater good of the people, not the site.

The controversy over Facebook since it had been created is, is Facebook a safe site? And if not, how can we make a stable, safe, and friendly environment over Facebook? The FTC, or Federal Trade Commission has been involved in an investigation on Facebook since 2009 investigating Facebook’s privacy settings. FTC concluded that “much of people’s information is still widely available to the public as well as Facebook’s business partners. If people need more privacy, they need to opt out, otherwise peoples information is out there for the world to see” (FTC Durham). With internet predators like cyber stalkers who are professional internet hackers, these people will do anything to get any personal information Facebook users contain. The other side of this controversy is that Facebook is perfect the way it is. These defenders argue that it is a stupendous positive to the world because it can upload thousands of photos, connect with friends all over the world, learn things about people you want to know, share links and videos.
