I worked for a company that had three international offices located in the USA, Europe, and Japan, and two factories in China. They specialize in providing customized products for any organization, targeting school spirit teams. The products consist of spirit items such as their cheers ticks, hats, duffel bags, bears, flip-flops, cheerleading accessories, and team merchandises. All of the products are designed to equip their clients' logo. Therefore, it is important that when an order is placed, the client information and the order be correctly aligned. Databases are used to store, manage, and retrieve this information. Each section of the database has its specific function. If databases did not exist, their company would have to revert to paperwork, which would slow down productivity. Employees would then have to hand write and draft everything on paper. As a result, they also will have to make several phone calls and rely on faxes to accomplish a simple task. Since they do use a database, the employees are able to have access to information instantly. This paper highlights the three databases that the company uses: Gold Mine, Macromedia Dreamweaver, and Microsoft Excel. They require the use of Gold Mine for maintaining customer contact information. This information includes customer name, phone number, delivery address, email, type of organization and a designated order number for references. Since each order have to through several different departments, it is critical for them to maintain and share this information with all of their employees. Gold Mine enables instant access to company-centric view of customer and contact information, including complete histories, sales, and calls (Front Range Solution 2010).
